Early-career high-school science teaching

My first professional chapter combined high-school science teaching in private and public school settings with continued study and practical technical training. In the private-school role documented at St. Louis College of Valenzuela, I taught General Science to Grades 7 and 8, worked with about 200 students daily, started an environmental science club, and later became Science Coordinator.

01 / The classroom context

Make science learning relevant to high-school students

As a new teacher with a BSEd in Physical Science, I worked with Grade 7 and Grade 8 General Science students. Lesson plans needed to respond to student needs and interests, while classroom activities and assessment helped keep learning active and visible.

The early-career teaching experience included both private and public school settings. At St. Louis College of Valenzuela, the private-school assignment ran from June 2016 to March 2017.

02 / The approach

Pair lesson planning with assessment and student participation

I prepared lessons around students’ needs and interests, facilitated General Science through engaging activities, and used formative and summative assessment. In the private-school assignment, the role involved about 200 high-school students daily.

I also established an environmental science club. The club gave interested students a place to explore science outside the regular lesson schedule.

03 / The wider role

Extend science work beyond classroom lessons

The environmental science club grew to about 50 students. I was later promoted to Science Coordinator during my private-school teaching experience, adding a coordination role to my classroom work.

My public-school teaching experience added a second school setting to this early-career chapter and broadened my experience with high-school students.

04 / Preparation and credentials

Science preparation with an active record in communication and competition

I earned a Bachelor of Secondary Education, major in Physical Science, at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela (2012–2016), and passed the Philippine Licensure Examination for Teachers in 2018. I was a consistent honor student from Kindergarten through high school.

I also hold Electronics Products Assembly and Servicing NC II, issued in 2017; the certificate records validity through October 20, 2022. I hold Motorcycle/Small Engine Servicing NC II as well, although I could not locate that certificate. My EF SET certificate, awarded July 22, 2026, records C2 Proficient with an overall score of 81/100, Reading 78, and Listening 84.

My high-school record includes third place in the 2011 regional Science IV Quiz and tenth place in Editorial at the 2011 Division Secondary Schools Press Conference. I also took part in division-level training for school campus journalists. These experiences reflect early science competitiveness and communication practice.

As I moved into teacher preparation and practice, I attended Research Proposal Writing at PLV in 2013, a PLV lecture series for K-12 science educators in 2015, a Generation Z and learner development seminar at St. Louis College of Valenzuela in 2016, and a Transformational Teaching for 21st Century Learners seminar in 2018.
